Heavy Storm Damage To St. Michael Home
ST. MICHAEL, Minn. (WCCO) -- A home in St. Michael bore evidence of a violent evening of thunderstorms around the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
The home, near the intersection of 42nd Street Northeast and Jana Avenue Northeast, sustained significant damage to its roof, and the garage doors appeared blown out.
The odd thing is that very few other homes nearby showed even remotely comparable damage. The house immediately next door showed very little damage.
The St. Michael Patch reported the home's owners were staying at a friend's house because of the damage their home sustained.
Neighbors said they saw the storm bearing down on the neighborhood and took refuge.
"It just started getting really, really windy, so I ran everyone downstairs," said neighbor Chris Hodges. "I looked out the back and I saw my trampoline 20 feet in the air, circling around."
The Wright County Sheriff's Office said they received reports last night of a funnel cloud in the area.
The National Weather Service will be in the neighborhood Wednesday to determine whether the damage to the house was the result of a small tornado.
There were no reports of injuries in the neighborhood.
