Heavy Rains Could Push Rivers To Flood Stage
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Recent storms and rain have pushed some rivers in Minnesota to high levels -- and heavy rain expected this week could cause the Mississippi, Minnesota and Red rivers to rise even more.
The National Weather Service says more than 3 inches of rain is predicted this week in central Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro area could see about 2 inches of rain.
The Red River at Fargo, N.D., has already reached flood stage. The Minnesota River is expected to reach flood stage this week at Savage and Henderson.
Forecasters are also watching for potential severe weather in southern Minnesota. Thunderstorms and heavy rain are possible Monday night and Tuesday in the Rochester and Austin areas. Storms could continue into Wednesday, with the chance for large hail.
