Heat Causes Road Buckling In Twin Cities

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A heat wave is causing road surfaces to buckle in the Twin Cities and leading to a slow rush-hour commute.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says crews are working on pavement failures in at least seven locations in the Twin Cities. Lanes were closed in at least two locations late Friday afternoon.

MnDOT also reports pavement buckling at southbound Highway 15, south of Highway 10 near St. Cloud.

Because of minimal staffing during the Minnesota government shutdown, MnDOT says it expects longer response times.

Minneapolis had reached 97 degrees as of 5 p.m.
