Hearing Set For Army Analyst Charged With Theft
LAWTON, Okla. (AP) -- A former U.S. Army analyst who tried to board a flight to China with electronic files containing restricted Army documents is scheduled to enter a plea to a misdemeanor charge of theft of government property.
A hearing is set in U.S. District Court in Lawton Thursday for Liangtian Yang, a former analyst at Fort Sill. Authorities say Yang was charged Aug. 26 after he was detained in Minnesota with copies of two restricted Army field manuals on multiple launch rocket systems on his computer equipment.
The items were discovered as he was screened at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Prosecutors say Yang had quit his job after he lost his security clearance for failing to report his marriage.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison.
