Heard Tosses 5 TDs In Edgerton-Ellsworth 9-Man Win
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Isaac Heard threw five touchdowns and set a Prep Bowl record with 368 yards passing to lead undefeated Edgerton-Ellsworth to its first 9-man state title, 36-28 over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Friday.
Heard, a junior, threw two touchdowns apiece to Blake Jouwstra and Devin Hulstein. Hulstein also set a Prep Bowl record with 198 yards receiving for the Flying Dutchmen (14-0).
Edgerton-Ellsworth's passing attack held off the Warriors' strong ground game. Wheaton/Herman-Norcross (12-2) had 396 yards rushing, 117 from quarterback Tyler Schwagel. The senior quarterback tried to rally his team in the final minutes but left the game with a separated shoulder.
Wolfgang Brink had two rushing touchdowns for the Warriors, and Schwagel and Gregg Cronen each also ran for a score.
