Hazeltine Preparing For Massive Ryder Cup Crowds
CHASKA, Minn. (WCCO) -- One day ahead of the first practice round of Ryder Cup Tournament, crowds are already beginning to form at Hazeltine Golf Club.
Approximately 50,000 people are expected to show up at the golf club each day of the six-day tournament. That includes visitors to the Ryder Cup merchandise shop on its first day open for business.
Golf course superintendent Chris Tritabaugh says his staff will grow from 40 to well over 150 to make sure course conditions are as good as they can be for the international tournament.
Some of the American players flew in Sunday night around 9:00 p.m. and might be out on the course sometime Monday afternoon.
Centered at the main entrance is the winner's prize: a giant Ryder Cup trophy replica. Locals say the hubbub in the area is an exciting reason to come check things out.
"We decided to come out, see what everything looked like and experience this once-in-a-lifetime event here in our little town of Chaska," Jillian Tenwinkle said.
Davis Love III is expected to address the media for the first time later Monday afternoon.
