Hair Stylists Flock To Wella Show At Walker
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Teased hair, pink hair and overflowing hair. Minneapolis looked a bit like Milan in Monday at the Walker Art Center.
Some of the artists who came to town for the 2013 Wella Hair Show want people to think differently about what's on top of their heads.
Inside a center known for art, you'll find a slew of creative impressions. Vancouver's Phillip Ferreira is considered one of the best hair stylists around. He won the International Trend Vision Award in Madrid last year.
Ferreira is in Minneapolis to show his own models and watch a contest to choose the region's next hair star in front of an audience of local stylists.
One of those stylists is Hannah Parker from Plymouth.
"We get to do foils all day, but this is the art," Parker said. "This is what it's all about."
Ferreira says hair is a true art form, important for cosmetic and emotional reasons.
"Hair sets the mood for the day, and if your hair looks bad in the morning, you're gonna have a bad day," Ferreira said.
He says he'd like to see people think more about their hair and see it as a canvas that just needs a hairbrush instead of a paint brush.
The winner of Monday's regional competition goes to Vegas to compete in nationals.
