Invader, Homeowner Arrested Following Armed Robbery
HUDSON, Wis. (WCCO/AP) -- Police have arrested a homeowner after he was held at gunpoint and robbed in Hudson, Wis. early Monday morning, reports say.
According to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office, both 26-year-old Michael Wayne Schwartzkopf, of Fond du Lac, and Steven Iverson, of Hudson, were taken into custody on Monday.
Police say Schwartzkopf forced his way into Iverson's home, bound him with "zip ties" and stole several handguns and cash from a safe in the garage.
Officers called in St. Croix County sheriff's deputies and their tracking dog, which led them to a house about a block away. A resident of the house, Yang Thor, told officers he had just given a ride to a man who said his vehicle broke down. Thor said he dropped the man off at a Kwik Trip gas station.
"In the process, I'm glad nothing real bad came out of it," Thor said.
Officers and deputies went to the gas station, removed the clerks and arrested Schwartzkopf as he left the men's room.
Authorities said they recovered a backpack in the store that contained a loaded handgun and cash.
However, it was reported that Iverson himself was also taken into custody shortly thereafter when police allegedly found drugs inside his home.
Both were booked by St. Croix County authorities.
