Guilty Plea In Roseville Police K-9 Stabbing
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A Maplewood man has pleaded guilty to the stabbing of a Roseville Police K-9 during an attempted theft, the Ramsey County Attorney's Office announced Thursday.
Roel Joseph Perez, Jr., 21, who will be sentenced Feb. 16, pleaded guilty to one felony count of attempted theft and one gross misdemeanor count of harming a public safety dog.
If given the maximum sentence for both counts, Perez will face 5 1/2 years in prison.
Major, the Roseville Police public safety dog, was stabbed by Perez when police responded to a report of an attempted theft in progress at a business on the 2300 block of English Street in Maplewood.
Major is recovering from the assault, but will not regain the use of his hind legs.
