Group Opposes New Wolf Hunt Via Billboards
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A group called Howling for Wolves is paying for billboards around the Twin Cities to oppose the new wolf hunting and trapping seasons this fall.
The wolf was removed from the endangered species list last January and the state legislature told the DNR to go ahead with the hunt.
"To take it right from the endangered species list, to hunt it for sport and to trap it for pelts, is pretty much an abuse of our natural resources," said Maureen Hackett of Howling for Wolves.
Chris Niskanen of the Minnesota DNR said it manages about 50 animals in the state through hunting.
"And we do it well," he said. "We manage wildlife on a sustainable basis."
