Governor's Dog Slated For Surgery To Remove Tumor
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Gov. Mark Dayton said over the weekend that his German Shepherd, Mesabi, was slated for surgery Monday to have a tumor removed.
On Saturday, the governor wrote on his Facebook page that he didn't go to the Gopher girls hockey game because he learned that Mesabi likely had a cancerous tumor on his spleen.
Dayton wrote that he chose Mesabi, 10, and his sister, Dakota, from a litter in Coon Rapids in 2002.
If Mesabi's tumor proves to be cancerous, the governor said he would probably love his dog to death – that is: he would not subject Mesabi to chemotherapy treatments.
Dayton did the same with Dakota, who also underwent surgery for what proved to be a cancerous tumor. She died in 2011.
