Dayton Back To Mayo For Surgery On Damaged Hip
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO/AP) – Gov. Mark Dayton announced Tuesday that he's headed to Mayo Clinic in Rochester next week to have hip surgery.
Dayton said the surgery will take place Feb. 6 and will last about an hour, during which he will be under general anesthesia. The procedure is being done to reattach the major hip tendons to the bone around his hip joint. Recent tests have shown they became detached and that muscles around his hip are showing signs of disuse atrophy.
Doctors have told Dayton, 67, that he'll have to wear a protective brace on the surgically repaired hip for up to three months to immobilize the area and let the muscle reattach completely to the bone.
It will be Gov. Dayton's third procedure at the Rochester clinic since taking office, following back surgery in December 2012 and a platelet injection last October to help heal a torn hip muscle.
