Gophers' Zahui Named Big Ten Player Of The Year
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that Minnesota sophomore center Amanda Zahui B. was named the league's Player of the Year by the media.
Zahui B. is fourth in the league in scoring at 18.5 points per game and leads the conference in rebounding (12.7 per game) and blocked shots (4). Her 29 rebounds in one game set a Big Ten single-game record.
She's the fourth Minnesota player in history to earn the Big Ten Player of the Year award. She's also the first to do it since Lindsay Whalen in 2002. Zahui B. was also a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection and selected to the league's All Defensive Team.
Shae Kelley was named Second Team All-Big Ten. She averaged 14 points and more than nine rebounds per game for the Gophers against ranked teams. She had 13 double-doubles in the regular season.
Carlie Wagner was named to the league's All-Freshman Team after averaging 11.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 rebounds in her first season. She had 11 striaght games where she scored 10 or more points.
