Gophers' Zahui B. Named First Team All-American
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- University of Minnesota sophomore Amanda Zahui B. was named a First-Team All-America selection Friday by ESPNW contributors.
She's the fifth player in Gopher women's basketball history to earn the honor and first since Janelle McCarville in 2005. The others were Lindsay Whalen, Carol Ann Shudlick and Laura Coenen.
Zahui is also a finalist for the Wooden Award and a semifinalist for the Naismith Trophy. She was the media's choice for Big Ten Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Big Ten honors. She averaged 18.8 points, 12.6 rebounds and 4.2 blocks per game this season to become one of the top centers in the nation.
During the Big Ten Tournament, she averaged 23 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks per game over two games. As just a sophomore, she's already Minnesota's career blocks leader with 239.
Minnesota (23-9, 11-7) will learn its seed for the NCAA Tournament on Monday.
