Gophers Sweep Final Big Ten Weekly Hockey Awards
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota men's hockey team got all three individual awards from the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday after sweeping Penn State over the weekend to win the league's regular season title.
Hudson Fasching was named the First Star of the Week, Kyle Rau was named the Second Star and Adam Wilcox was named the Third Star of the Week.
Fasching collected six points to help lead the Gophers to their second consecutive regular season Big Ten title. He had a goal and an assist in the first period of Friday's win and added two goals and two assists in Saturday's 6-2 win.
Rau collected five points on the weekend, including the eventual game-winning goals in both wins over Penn State. He had one goal and two assists in Friday's win and scored twice in Saturday's win.
Wilcox had a .959 save percentage and a one goal against average on the weekend to earn both victories. He made 18 saves Friday for his fifth shutout of the season and made 29 saves in Saturday's win. He leads the NCAA among active goalies with 71 career wins.
Minnesota faces the Penn State/Ohio State winner in the Big Ten Tournament Friday night at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich.
