Gophers Move Big Ten Home Games To Target Field
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota baseball team will play Big Ten home games this season at Target Field.
The announcement was made Friday.
With aged Siebert Field on campus not considered suitable and the Metrodome's fallen roof being replaced, the university worked out an agreement for the Gophers to play 12 games outside at the Minnesota Twins' new ballpark.
The Gophers actually were the first to play at Target Field, a non-conference game against Louisiana Tech last March. Their first game there this year will be on Friday, April 1, a doubleheader against Purdue.
Gophers coach John Anderson says he's grateful to the Twins, who "bent over backwards to help" make this work.
The Gophers had to relocate or cancel 19 non-Ballparkconference games that were set for the Metrodome.
