Gophers' Hollins, Banham Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that two University of Minnesota basketball players have been given player of the week honors.
Senior guard Andre Hollins was named the Player of the Week on the men's side after helping lead the Gophers to wins over Wake Forest and Western Carolina. He averaged 21 points and five rebounds over the two victories.
Hollins shot nearly 52 percent from the field, including better than 56 percent from three-point range in the two wins. His seven 3-pointers against Wake Forest was one shy of a school record.
On the women's side, senior Rachel Banham was named the league's Player of the Week Honor Roll after averaging 28 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in wins over N.C. State and Butler. She scored a season-high 35 points against Butler, including the game-tying 3-pointer with just seconds remaining in regulation. She also had six rebounds and six assists in the game.
Banham had 21 points and nine rebounds in the win over N.C. State, which was part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
