Gophers' Andre Hollins Blossoming Before Our Eyes
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Gopher men's basketball team is built for the Big Ten because they have a big three -- Trevor Mbakwe's muscle, Rodney Williams' ability to get to the basket, and Andre Hollins' maturation at the point guard position.
Hollins is blossoming before our eyes.
You could say coach Tubby Smith has given Hollins the keys to the car -- to run the team.
"I do my job, but it's not my team," he said. "It's Rodney Williams' -- it's the seniors' team. I'm support for Rodney and Trevor."
He's impressed his coach, well, just a little.
"He's cutting back on his turnovers," Smith said. "That's an area he had trouble with last year."
After dropping 41 points on Memphis - his hometown - that put him on the map.
"It was just like playing back at home," he said. "I wasn't really cognizant of how many points I had until I shot free throws in the second half."
It's all part of understanding his role as a leader.
"I'm not perfect at it yet," he said. "I have a lot to work on. It's one of those things I have to work at."
