Gopher Basketball Adds Transfer Reggie Lynch
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- University of Minnesota basketball coach Richard Pitino announced Wednesday that center Reggie Lynch has been added to the program.
Lynch, an Edina native, is transferring to Minnesota after spending two years at Illinois State. Lynch, who is 6 feet, 10 inches tall and 253 pounds, must sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer rules but will have two years of eligibility left.
He earned Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors last season with the Redbirds and was also named to the All-Defensive Team and the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Team. In two years, he recorded 189 career blocks, second all-time at the school. His 2.8 blocks per game last season ranked 14th nationally.
He also averaged 9.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season at Illinois State.
"We are very excited about the addition of Reggie Lynch," Pitino said. "He was one of the best players on a very good team in a proven conference. We expect him to make an immediate impact. Most importantly, Reggie has grown up dreaming of being a Gopher. He will wear the Maroon and Gold with pride."
Lynch is the nephew of former Gopher and NBA player Kevin Lynch.
