Gopher Ace Windle En Route To MLB?
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Every team needs an ace, and the Gopher baseball team relies on Tom Windle, a left-hander who may have a future beyond college.
"He came in with a good foundation, and for me it's been an easy polish job," assistant coach Todd Oakes said.
Windle's pitched his way to the top of the rotation with nasty movement, and a competitor's mentality.
"I think I'm more of a bulldog," Windle said. "I don't think about my mechanics too much while I'm out there, I think about my mindset."
That is a formula that has worked well for left-handed pitchers at the University of Minnesota in the past. Windle might not be the next Glen Perkins -- a two-year ace at Minnesota -- but he's in the conversation.
"I would put him in the category of other pitchers who have pitched in the major leagues based on his stuff and his determination to get better every day," Coach John Anderson said.
The goal is to one day wake up and get paid for to do what he loves.
