Good To Know: Meet The 1st Amendment, O'Donnell

It was a debate of senate candidates seeking to fill the vacated post once held by Vice President Joe Biden.
Chris Coons, the Democrat, was debating Christine O'Donnell of the Tea Party. The setting was the Widener School of Law. It is important to remember the setting.
Candidate O'Donnell stunned into laughter the law students by asking a question. She asked, "Where in the Constitution is separation of church and state?"
When her opponent pointed out that the separation clause was in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights of the Constitution, and then quoted it to her, O'Donnell responded with another laugh line: "You're telling me that's in the First Amendment?"
Look, I don't take sides in political contests. But if we are electing lawmakers, wouldn't it be handy if the candidate had at least read the Bill of Rights?
