Good Question: Who Are Minnesota's Top Employers?
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Earlier this week, the CEO of Target announced the company would cut several thousand jobs over the next two years at its Minneapolis headquarters.
Right now, Target ranks fourth when it comes to the number of employees in Minnesota, according to Twin Cities Business Magazine.
So, who are Minnesota's top employers? Good Question.
Target has 30,000 employees across Minnesota, about 13,000 of whom are headquartered in the Twin Cities.
Here's the business magazine's list:
- State of Minnesota
- U.S. Federal Government
- Mayo Clinic
- Target
- University Of Minnesota
- Allina Health
- Walmart
- Wells Fargo
- Fairview Health Services
- UnitedHealth Group.
Jenny Keil, the department chair at the Hamline School of Business, said the list tells her that employees have lots of choices.
"We've got a very low unemployment rate right now," she said. "So if you're in an industry that might be temporarily downsizing, you have lots of options. We have retail jobs, we have banking jobs, so we tend to attract employers that have higher skilled, higher paying jobs."
Lists are always moving -- usually with the same organizations, but in different spots.
The most recent numbers from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal has Mayo in 1st with 41,000 employees, followed by the state, then Target.
