Golden Valley To Honor Orlando Victims At Pride Festival
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The city of Golden Valley is hosting its inaugural Pride Festival on Sunday and a moment of silence will be held for the victims in Saturday's mass shooting at an Orlando nightclub.
Orlando officials said Sunday morning that 50 people died and another 53 people were injured after a gunman opened fire Saturday night at a gay nightclub. Authorities said the gunman is one of the dead.
The Pride Festival in Golden Valley goes from 12 to 4 p.m. and Brookview Park and will begin with a moment of silence. The event is themed "Celebrating Community, Family and Friends" and will include music, a bouncy house, food trucks, other community booths and free ice cream.
City officials say more gay couples, married or unmarried, live in Golden Valley than any other city in Minnesota. About 2.2 percent of households in the city are self-identified as gay.
