Eames' coach at Gustavus, Jon Carlson, said he was not surprised that she was elected to be the United States' team captain.
"She's always been a positive force on our team and a great leader," Carlson said.
Eames swam the anchor leg for her team and, in her 100 meters, was able to move them from third place to second place. They finished with a time of 4:24.57.
Australia took the gold medal with a record-setting time of 4:20.39. Britain took bronze with a time of 4:24.71.
Eames is scheduled to swim two more Paralympic events: Thursday's 100 meter free style and Friday's 4x100 meter medley relay.
