Going Behind The Scenes Of The Holidazzle Parade
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It's one of the most family-friendly events of the holiday season, and it kicks off on Friday as the annual Holidazzle parade kicks off in downtown Minneapolis.
It's a bittersweet year as it will be the final season of the Holidazzle in Minneapolis. WCCO-TV's Edward Moody went behind the scenes with the parade crew to see how they make the magic happen on weekend nights throughout the holidays.
Every float for the parade is kept in a warehouse in Minneapolis. It's where they are kept clean and routine maintenance is done to keep all the floats in working order.
Leah Wong with the Holidazzle parade committee said there will be more than 300 characters in costume for every parade. She said it takes all the characters about 45 minutes to get ready for the parade. There are also dozens of floats that are all fully lit with holiday spirit.
Wong said overall, there are more than 350,000 lights between costumes and floats.
WCCO-TV will air the first Holidazzle parade in downtown Minneapolis live on Friday with Frank Vascellaro and Amelia Santaniello hosting after WCCO 4 News at 6.
