Twins Ticket Glitch Frustrates Fans

By Rachel Slavik, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) –- Fans lined up at Target Field and online to buy single-game Twins tickets Saturday, but for those purchasing tickets online, the experience was confusing and frustrating.

Three hours after Twins tickets went on sale, Kevin Giandalia was still waiting online to buy his uncle's tickets for an August game against the Yankees.

"It's just supposed to move along really fast," Giandalia said.

His uncle Jason Giandalia logged on at 10 a.m. Saturday. He moved up through the line, but suddenly moved backwards.

"Online, it stated that you won't go backwards, you'll only forwards, but that wasn't the case," Jason Giandalia said.

Instead of waiting online, Jason Giandalia made the trip to Target Field to buy tickets in person. Meanwhile his nephew still held his spot in cyberspace.

"I'm stuck here, but I'm here, so I'm going to get my tickets," Jason Giandalia said.

Jason Giandalia wasn't the only person who ran into ticket problems online.

"I was waiting for the pop up, never got a pop up. And I fell back to 10th," Wayne Babcock said.

A glitch with the website, which crashed twice for unknown reasons, made it look like fans were getting closer to buying their tickets than they actually were. When the problem was fixed, fans saw their actual place in line. For some, it may have appeared they moved backward in line.

"We had that glitch, which we're sorry for, but no one lost their spot in line," said Kevin Smith, the executive director of public affairs for the Minnesota Twins.

Smith said 110,000 people logged on Saturday to buy tickets. That type of volume will cause a wait.

"We are experiencing unprecedented demand for Twins tickets in 2011, which we're very grateful for," Smith said.

Ticket sales haven't seen this amount of demand since the 1987 World Series run. With that demand, a trip to Target Field seemed to be the quickest way to go.

Jason left with tickets in hand, but not for the Yankees game he wanted.
