Get Movin' Monday: Festive & Healthy St. Patrick's Day Options
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Every Monday, we're answering your health and fitness questions to kick off your week right.
This week definitely has a more festive feel with St. Patrick's Day falling on Monday. "America's Next Fitness Star" and Tiger Athletics owner Stacie Clark joined the WCCO This Morning show for "Get Movin' Monday," where green ideas took over the segment.
Clark talked healthy green foods and even some healthier options for those who will be out drinking on St. Patrick's Day.
First, there's some green go-to snacks. Those include apples, kale, grapes, pears and celery if you want to get in the green spirit but also stay healthy. Another option is to make a green smoothie.
Here's that recipe:
Sweet Spinach Smoothie
1 cup greens
1 cup Coconut-Pineapple H2O
1/2 apple
1/2 pear
2 slices of pineapple (optional for added sweetness).
And if you're going to drink, green beer is festive but you really should stay away from it. Clark said it's cheap beer and food dye. If you want to celebrate your Irish heritage, drink Guinness Draught. It's 126 calories, which is within range of light beer.
If you're looking for something a little lighter, try sparking mineral water with a slice of lemon and lime. Clark said it has zero calories.
