Gerhart Still Lurks In Peterson's Long Shadow
MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Toby Gerhart is as good as new.
Assuming NFL MVP Adrian Peterson handles the bulk of the ball carrying again for the Minnesota Vikings this season, his backup can at least tout his health as a selling point when he becomes a free agent next spring.
Beyond that and the five games Peterson missed over Gerhart's first three years in the league, there is little video evidence with which to evaluate the former Stanford star and second-round draft pick.
Gerhart says he's become a better player despite the minimal experience by simply watching each game through Peterson's eyes. When his teammate comes to the sideline, Gerhart will tell him what he saw about the way Peterson read the defense and hit the holes.
