General Mills Considering Site Near Fort Wayne
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) -- The Allen County Council is considering giving General Mills a tax abatement of more than $3 million over 10 years on a proposed $36 million warehouse near Fort Wayne.
The News-Sentinel reports that County Council will vote on the tax break on Friday. General Mills already has a 750,000 square-foot warehouse, but is considering building a 1.5 million-square-foot facility that would add 65 more jobs with an average salary of $30,000 a year.
The company's application for the tax abatement says the facility will store and distribute dry finished products. Minneapolis-based General Mills also is considering another site outside Indiana.
Construction could start in June, with completion in August 2012.
