Gas Prices Drop Ahead Of Thanksgiving Holiday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Lower gas prices will be a pleasant surprise to the millions of Americans hitting the road Wednesday to reach their Thanksgiving destination.
Some stations in Minnesota are selling gas for less than $3 a gallon.
According to MinnesotaGasPrices.com, First Fuel in St. Cloud is at $2.99 a gallon and so is Bill's Superette in Onamia, Minn.
Overnight the lowest prices in the Metro are hovering around $3 a gallon.
The Hi-Hi in Lakeville climbed up to $3.07 just a few hours after being listed at $2.99 a gallon.
The average in Minnesota is around $3.12 a gallon.
The lower prices at the pump are good news for the more than 38 million people who will be driving 50 or more miles this year for Thanksgiving weekend.
"I'm happy to see them down closer to $3," said Dixie Kress, who was Heading to Lanesboro. "It will make a difference, the further you have to go, the bigger difference. I would have gone anyway, but it's nice."
Another good tip: before heading out, it's a good idea to check your tire pressure. Make sure it's between 30 and 35 PSA. This will give you better gas mileage, and help you avoid flat tires and even some accidents.
