Gas Leak In Minneapolis Forces Evacuations
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Residents in a south Minneapolis neighborhood were evacuated as crews worked to fix a gas leak Wednesday.
The leak was reported on 14th and Franklin Avenues. People who live near there, business owners and patrons were evacuated.
Investigators from CenterPoint Energy and Minneapolis firefighters responded to the scene. The evacuation area was from East Franklin Avenue between 11th and 14th Avenues and from north to south was between 13th and 19th Streets.
Buses were brought in to keep those evacuated people warm.
A CenterPoint Energy spokesperson said crews have found the exact location of the leak on a main line. This means there won't be any service interruption to customers because crews were able to reroute the gas service.
The evacuation lasted for three hours, then residents were allowed back in their homes.
