Highway 12 In Maple Plain Reopened After Gas Leak
MAPLE PLAIN, Minn. (WCCO) -- Highway 12 in Maple Plain had to be closed for more than two hours on Wednesday after a gas leak in the area, authorities said.
Officials with Centerpoint Energy said the highway was reopened to traffic and the gas leak had stopped shortly after 1 p.m. The gas leak started when a contractor working on sewer repairs in the area hit a gas line. Officials said all necessary should be done by 5 or 6 p.m.
Hennepin County officials say the gas leak was reported around 11 a.m. Highway 12 was closed while authorities temporarily evacuated the area.
Businesses along the stretch of highway that had been evacuated were also allowed back in and reopened shortly after 1 p.m.
