Gas In Apple Valley $3.37 A Gallon

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's not a dramatic drop in price, but for many it makes a physiological difference. In Apple Valley, the price for a regular gallon of gas is around $3.38 and at Paul's Gas Station it's $3.37.

"A few cents makes a difference because I can justify going for a cup of coffee," said Debbie Dockry as she pumped gas into her car. "Physiologically, it makes a big difference."

Paul's Gas Station on 147th Street and Cedar Avenue has been in business for 30 years. Paul Graffunder is owner of the station.

"We just decided we wanted to get a little attention for ourselves," said Graffunder.

Graffunder said the reason he can keep his prices so low is because he doesn't have a mortgage like other stations.

"I don't have any debt," said Graffunder. "I'm going to be the last one standing."

The BP gas station across the street from Paul's is always matching his price. A manager on duty at BP said they're always keeping an eye on his sign. But Graffunder feels he has an advantage over them.

"I think people like to come to a place that's owned by a person and not a big company," said Graffunder.

One year ago the price of gallon of regular gas was $2.73. Some drivers feel those prices are long gone.
