Garnett On Wolves: 'They're Playing With A Lot Of Confidence'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Kevin Garnett has never lost to his former team.
He's 7-0 against the Timberwolves with four of those wins at Target Center, averaging 14.9 points and 10.3 rebounds in those games.
"I played in this building before, for countless years," Garnett said, before breaking into a smile and a chuckle. "I hope that I at least make a couple shots in this place."
Indeed, more than just a couple. A Garnett return is a good chance to break out the old highlight tape, and remember.
"There's a lot of emotion that come with this building," Garnett said. "A lot of emotion that come with, you know, obviously some of the stuff that's in here. But obviously (it was) a different time, different personnel, different times."
From his 12 years at Target Center, Garnett has a lot of good memories, including 10-playoff appearances and an MVP.
But he was famously bitter about being traded to Boston. He may still hold a grudge. To say he takes pleasure in beating his former employer is a given.
Friday night, he returns as a member of the Brooklyn Nets. And at 37 years old and in his 19th NBA season, there's a very real possibility that this could be Garnett's final game in Minnesota.
When asked about this possibility, Garnett was brief.
"Next question," he said.
He was not in the mood for nostalgia or reflection. He's got a job to do and a game to play against a team that he thinks is pretty good - even without him.
"They get the ball up a lot," Garnett said. "They play with a real fast pace. Kevin Love is in an unbelievable groove. I think he and (Ricky) Rubio are one of the best one-two punches in our league. And they're playing with a lot of confidence."
