Funeral Held For Officer Who Suffered Heart Attack On Duty
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Friends and family said their final goodbyes to a St. Paul police officer who died after suffering a heart attack on the job last weekend.
Josh Lynaugh, 30, died Saturday. He had been in the hospital since he got sick chasing after someone on foot earlier this month.
Lynaugh's funeral was held Friday morning at the Cathedral of St. Paul, followed by a procession.
A visitation was held Thursday night.
Law enforcement officials from all over the state attended the service. During the memorial, Lynaugh was remembered as "a gentle giant" who wanted to follow in his father's footsteps.
"Josh gave his heart to you, this department, his brothers and sisters in blue and the city of St. Paul" the chaplain said.
Gov. Mark Dayton, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman were also in attendance. Dayton ordered flags to be lowered to half on Friday in honor of Lynaugh, who was a five-year veteran on the force.
