Fund Set For Kids Of MnDOT Worker Swept Into River
ST. PETER, Minn. (AP) -- Department of Transportation co-workers of a maintenance operator who died after his backhoe was swept into the flooding Minnesota River have established a memorial fund in his name.
Donations to the Mike Struck Memorial Fund can be made to the Nicollet County Bank in St. Peter. Proceeds will be used to help fund the education of Struck's 6- and 4-year-old children.
Struck, a 39-year-old who worked at MnDOT for nine years, was clearing debris near Seven Mile Creek along Highway 169 between Mankato and St. Peter on Tuesday when his backhoe was apparently pulled into floodwaters. Searchers found his body on Wednesday.
