Duluth Freighter Stuck On Lake Superior
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Efforts continue to free a grounded Lake Superior freighter.
The Roger Blough ran aground Friday afternoon on a reef in Whitefish Bay in eastern Lake Superior. The 850-foot long laker is carrying iron ore from Duluth and was heading for Ohio.
The U.S. Coast Guard set up a 500 yard safety zone around the ship over the weekend, and a boom as a preventative measure around the ship's fuel tanks.
According to the Coast Guard, damage appears to be limited to the forward section and there are no signs of pollution.
The NTSB is investigating the cause of the grounding.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard is still working out what they're going to do to get the ship free
