Freight Train Derails In Paynesville, Aitkin
PAYNESVILLE, Minn. (AP) -- Freight trains have derailed in northern and central Minnesota, but no one was hurt.
The Brainerd Dispatch reports about 12 cars on a Burlington Northern Santa Fe coal train derailed east of Aitkin (AY'-kin) Monday afternoon. The train was coming from Montana and headed to Superior, Wis., when the cars derailed about 2 p.m.
BNSF spokeswoman Amy McBeth says it's too early to say what may have caused the derailment. Crews were on their way to work on cleanup.
In central Minnesota, the St. Cloud Times reports eight cars of an 85-car Canadian Pacific Railway train derailed in Paynesville on Monday afternoon.
Paynesville Police Chief Kent Kortlever says two of the cars ended up in the North Fork of the Crow River.
Kortlever says no hazardous cargo is involved.
