'Free Bikes 4 Kidz' Drive Is Saturday Around Metro
HOPKINS, Minn. (WCCO) -- There's an opportunity tomorrow to help families in Twin Cities. If you have a bike or two that you're willing to donate, we have just the place.
Last year, the group "Free Bikes 4 Kidz" ended up giving away about 5,000 bicycles to families in need. This year, they're hoping to given away even more but they need your help.
Those 5,000 bikes sounds like a lot to give away to needy families, but Terry Esau, the founder and executive director of "Free Bikes 4 Kidz," said that number isn't close to satisfy their need. He said they could give away another 20,000 bikes on top of that in the snap of a finger.
They are looking for a range of bikes, from gently-used for kids or adults and even tricycles. Esau mainly asks that those who donate bikes bring ones that are in fairly good condition and that can be used right away.
Esau said the organization will have a large crew on hand on Saturday to take bikes in and make any needed fixes or repairs before they hit the roads and trails again.
The event goes from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday. There are 48 drop off sites around the Twin Cities metro for Free Bikes 4 Kidz. The group is a non-profit, so those who donate can get a tax receipt.
