Frazier: DT Williams 'Fortunate' He Didn't Suffer Ligament Injury
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier says defensive tackle Kevin Williams is fortunate that there was no injury to any of his ligaments in his right knee after a hard hit in Sunday's game.
Williams suffered the injury after San Francisco 49ers' offensive lineman Joe Looney blocked him low early in the third quarter.
On Monday, Williams underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. Frazier released a statement late Monday afternoon announcing the results.
"Kevin Williams suffered a hyperextension injury to his right knee in last night's football game. An MRI exam today revealed a significant bone contusion as well as a posterior capsular strain. Kevin was fortunate in that there was no injury to any of his ligaments," Frazier said.
The team has not released a timetable on when Williams is expected to come back. Bone bruises have been known to keep players out for a couple weeks or more.
Frazier heard from his coaches in the booth that the hit on Williams might be worth mailing to the league.
