Franken Vs. McFadden Debate: Fighting ISIS

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - WCCO hosted a debate between Democratic Sen. Al Franken and Republican challenger Mike McFadden Sunday at 10 a.m.

Here's the third question:

Sen. Franken, what would you do about the latest ISIS threat?

ISIS is a barbaric group. We need to degrade and destroy ISIS. So I voted to train and arm the moderate rebels in Syria, with some trepidation about how successful that can be. I supported the president's bombing in Syria, as well as in Iraq. ISIS doesn't observe those borders, so I don't think we have to either. When we go back to Congress, we will debate on an authorization to use military force to okay this bombing.

Mike McFadden's response:

This has been going on for a long time. The world has become a more dangerous place. I hear about safety and security from people all the time. If you want to talk directly about Minnesota becoming the No. 1 recruitment area for terrorists in the country, that concerns me and that concerns Minnesotans. This has been going on for a long time: Al Franken says it's been going on since 2008, with al-Shabaab , more recently with ISIS. ... I called for a revocation of passports from people who go over and fight with a terrorist organization, and I held a press conference to say that. This was after talking to community leaders in east Africa.
