Franken: Small Business Needs To Export, Too
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Several high ranking Obama administration officials including; U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk will be in Minneapolis Thursday for the National Export Initiative Small Business Tour. The forum is designed to help connect small and medium-sized Minnesota businesses with the resources they need to sell more products around the world.
Sen. Al Franken, a supporter of the expansion, said he is glad President Obama is sending his top officials to Minnesota to show how the federal government can work with our state's business leaders to create new jobs by expanding the markets we export too.
"This is part of the president's plan to double exports in the next five years to support creation of several million new jobs," Franken explained, "There are a lot of hurdles that stand in the way of small and medium size businesses and being able to export, and that's what this is all about."

Franken said he has been actively representing Minnesota's interests when it comes to exporting.
"We have brought Minnesota companies to the administration and the office of the trade representative to see how we can help them grow."
The day-long conference is set to take place Thursday, Feb. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00p.m. at the University of Minnesota McNamara Alumni Center.
