Foul Play Not Suspected In Boogaard's Death
MINNNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police said Saturday foul play is not suspected in the death of former Minnesota Wild hockey player Derek Boogaard.
Police Sgt. Bill Palmer said authorities received a call just after 6 p.m. Friday of a male unconscious and not breathing in the 400 block of 1st St. N, the location of Boogaard's apartment.
When the Minneapolis Fire Department arrived, authorities pronounced Boogaard dead at the scene and police were called to investigate. Boogaard was 28 and spent five seasons playing with the Wild before playing with the New York Rangers last season.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said Saturday that it will take about two weeks before they will find an official cause of death. A memorial service to honor Boogaard has been planned for Sunday night from 6 to 9 p.m. outside Gate 1 at Xcel Energy Center.
