Former Viking Among Hall Of Fame Finalists
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A former Vikings player who played in four Super Bowls with the team is among the 18 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The list of nominees currently includes 15 notables from the modern era, one senior and two contributors. The senior nominee named is former Vikings center Mick Tingelhoff.
Tingelhoff, now 74, spent 17 seasons playing center for the Vikings before his retirement in 1978. He never missed a game, starting 240.
Tinglehoff, a Nebraska native, never played for any other team but the Vikings.
To be elected, a finalist must receive at least 80 percent of the votes from the 46-person selection committee.
The next class of Hall of Fame inductees will be announced Jan. 31 in Phoenix. Inductions will be in August in Canton, Ohio.
The 15 modern day finalists were: kicker Morten Andersen, running back Jerome Bettis, wide receiver Tim Brown, coach Don Coryell, running back Terrell Davis, coach Tony Dungy, linebacker-defensive end Kevin Greene, linebacker-defensive end Charles Haley, wide receiver Marvin Harrison, coach Jimmy Johnson, safety John Lynch, and guard Will Shields.
