Former Minneapolis Cop Gets 10 Years For Robbery
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The former Minneapolis police officer accused of a series of robberies in Apple Valley, Eagan and Rosemount was sentenced Thursday in Dakota County to more than 10 years in jail.
Timothy Carson, 29, pleaded guilty to the robberies, which stemmed from Dec. 16, 2009 to Jan. 5, 2010, last October. He had been charged with first-degree aggravated robbery and two counts of first-degree attempted aggravated robbery.
Carson was previously sentenced to eight years in prison, after pleading guilty to an Apple Valley bank robbery on Aug. 2, 2010 in federal court. He also pleaded guilty in Hennepin County to five additional crimes of aggravated robbery, between Dec. 15, 2009 and Jan. 4, 2010. He received a sentence of 10 years for those crimes, as well.
These sentences will be served concurrent with the federal sentence.
"We believe the defendant should have received significantly more prison time given the serious and violent nature of these crimes committed by an officer sworn to uphold the law," Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said.
