Former Catholic School Teachers Celebrate Nat'l Coming Out Day
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesotans came together from across the state to celebrate National Coming Out Day.
It's a day that celebrates coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender – or as an ally.
The downtown Minneapolis celebration focused on being able to be out in the workplace. Former president of Totino Grace Catholic High School, Bill Hudson, talked about resigning from his job after 20 years of service to the church.
He's an administrator for Mounds Park Academy now and says he's finally living an "authentic life" devoted to his two children and his partner of 18 years.
"I think my story is one of triumph," he said. "And to be able to share that...it felt like it was the right thing to do."
Kristen Ostendorf is another teacher at Totino Grace was let go in September for coming out.
Hudson says he keeps in touch with her and that she's doing well teaching at Highland Park Senior High in St. Paul.
