Former Minnesota Boy Scout Sues, Claiming Sexual Abuse
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A former St. Paul Boy Scout who claims he was molested by a serial abuser in 1969 and 1970 has sued the Boy Scouts of America and its local chapter.
The lawsuit filed Thursday says the victim was 11 or 12 when abused by then-leader Donald Leonard Keys. It says the organization failed to protect the victim from Keys.
The lawsuit also names Keys as a defendant.
The man's attorneys say Keys was arrested in 1970 for kidnapping another boy and attempting to sodomize him. He pleaded guilty. In 2004, he was convicted of producing and possessing child pornography and is in federal prison.
Northern Star Council spokesman Kent York says today's child protection environment is more advanced and that the organization works hard to incorporate practices to protect youth.
