Cottage Grove Man Charged With Shooting Uber Eats Driver
COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 48-year-old Twin Cities man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly shooting an Uber Eats driver Tuesday evening in his neighborhood.
Otis Shipp, of Cottage Grove, was charged via warrant with one count of second-degree attempted murder with a dangerous weapon, court documents filed in Washington County show. Officials say he turned himself in on Wednesday.
According to a criminal complaint, the shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the driveway of a townhome on the 8700 block of Ironwood Avenue. The victim, an Uber Eats delivery driver, said he dropped off food at a home and was approached by a man with a gun.
The victim told investigations that the man asked him what he was doing, and before he could respond, the man shot him. The man fired multiple rounds, with one of them hitting the victim in the left shoulder. Surveillance footage from the neighborhood captured the victim screaming that he was just a delivery driver as he ran off.
The victim got into his car and drove to a gas station on East Point Douglas Road. He is expected to survive. Surveillance video from the neighborhood showed that a car followed the delivery driver to the gas station, but did not pull in.
Later, investigators learned that the car that followed the delivery driver belonged to Shipp and that he lived in the neighborhood where the shooting happened. When the victim was shown a photo of Shipp, he said that he was "100% sure" he was the shooter.
Police executed a search warrant on Shipp's home and found five spent shell casings in the driveway, a gun lock and holster, and numerous containers of marijuana.
If convicted of the attempted murder charge, Shipp faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
