Fmr. Peanut Company Owner Gets 28 Years In Salmonella Case
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A former peanut company owner is going to prison for a food-poisoning outbreak that killed three Minnesotans.
A judge sentenced Stewart Parnell to 28 years behind bars Monday. Parnell ran the Peanut Corporation of America in Georgia.
The government linked that company to a salmonella outbreak in 2008 and 2009 that killed nine people and sickened more than 700.
Last year a jury convicted Parnell of knowingly shipping tainted food and faking lab tests.
At sentencing Monday, Parnell said he was truly sorry and asked victims for forgiveness.
Parnell's brother got 20 years for his role in the outbreak. A former plant manager got five.
