Portions Of 2 SE Highways Remained Closed Due To Flooding
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Portions of two southeast highways remain closed Friday due to flooding following Wednesday's torrential rains.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Highway 105 is closed from 120th Street to 160th Street south of the Austin area. Flooding was caused by the Cedar River.
In Albert Lea, Highway 65 is closed at Katherine Street.
The city of Albert Lea listed a number of other streets that are closed. Those include:
- Main Street between Garfield and Newton Avenues
- Lincoln Avenue between Commercial and 9th Streets
- Wedgewood Road
- Lakeview Boulevard between The Fairway and Martin Road
- Edgewater Drive
- Highway 101 between Highway 13 and Edgewater Drive
- The intersection of East Pearl Street and Elizabeth Avenue
- Elmira Street from Stanley to Blackmer Avenues
Officials are continuing to remind residents to restrict their water usage due to the inundated sewer system.
While many roads remain closed, MnDOT said that one highway was reopened.
In Zumbrota, Highway 58 reopened overnight.
Other Minnesota communities are continue to fight against rising rivers and flooded streets.
In Northfield, a viewer sent a photo of a flooded downtown saying sandbagging efforts were ongoing.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Tim Walz traveled to Waseca to view some of the affected areas.
Klobuchar and Walz were also scheduled to visit with Steele County Emergency Management and Waseca County Emergency Management.
MnDOT is reminding drivers if they see standing water on the road to turn around and not try and drive through it.
